Rajasthan Assembly Sees Heated Debate Between CM and Opposition

Jaipur, February 5: A heated exchange unfolded in the Rajasthan Assembly on Thursday during the discussion of the Governor’s address, as Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma faced repeated interruptions while responding.

The debate showcased a clash between Chief Minister Sharma and the opposition Congress party. Accepting the Congress’s challenge, the Chief Minister stated he was fully prepared for an in-depth discussion on the performance of the Congress government over the past five years compared to the current two years under the BJP.

“I accept the challenge for a debate on five years versus two years,” said CM Sharma. “I am presenting all relevant documents in the House. Speaker, please allocate time—I am ready for this discussion.”

Following the Chief Minister’s remarks, the Assembly was adjourned until February 11. During this period, Congress legislators created disturbances twice: first when the Chief Minister dismissed allegations related to the Special Investigation Report (SIR), and again when he expressed his readiness for the ‘two years versus five years’ debate.

Sharma remarked, “When in power, one hand held authority while the other made recommendations for relatives. Exams took place, but questions were already in pockets. Hardworking youth were overlooked.”

Indirectly targeting Congress state president Govind Singh Dotasra, he claimed that during their tenure, people were sent to a special ‘big’ individual for assistance, where decisions were made. He added, “Integrity is in service, not in leisure. Youth need fair exams, not speeches.”

The Chief Minister accused the Congress of leaving behind a debt of over ₹5.79 lakh crore and stated that the BJP government has been working to rectify this. He mocked the opposition for their inability to see development, saying, “If the opposition cannot see progress, I can provide them with glasses.”

Opposition leader Tikaram Julie criticized the government, asserting that it focuses on branding rather than actual work. “Whether work is done or not, branding continues. The Chief Minister makes reels. A ₹8 crore branding contract was awarded, yet the YouTube channels have less than 100 views,” he stated.

Julie also raised concerns about administrative instability and the Vande Mataram controversy, questioning which part was removed that led to the uproar. He expressed that they would await a response, but no member from the ruling party answered.
