Rahul Gandhi Attends PAC Meeting in Telangana, Discusses Rajya Sabha Elections

Hyderabad, March 2: Rahul Gandhi, the leader of the opposition in the Lok Sabha, participated in a joint meeting of the Political Affairs Committees (PAC) of Congress in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh on Monday.

Gandhi arrived in Telangana for a one-day visit and attended the PAC meeting at the SAP Arts and Science College in Vikarabad. He was accompanied by K.C. Venugopal and welcomed at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy.

Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee President Mahesh Kumar Goud, and Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee President Y.S. Sharmila also welcomed him in Vikarabad.

After the PAC meeting, Gandhi visited the Haritha Resort in Ananthagiri Hills, where he participated in a training camp for newly appointed district Congress committee presidents from both states. These leaders have completed a ten-day training aimed at strengthening the party at the grassroots level.

During his visit, discussions may take place regarding important party matters involving Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, T.P.C.C. leaders, and senior officials. The upcoming elections for two Rajya Sabha seats from Telangana are also likely to be a topic of conversation. The state Congress leadership may present a list of names for the Rajya Sabha tickets.

Several senior leaders are vying for nominations, including Shyam Mohan Anantula, advisor to the Chief Minister Vem Narender Reddy, former Rajya Sabha member V. Hanumantha Rao, G. Chinna Reddy, chairman of the Telangana State Planning Board, former MP Madhu Yaskhi Goud, and M. Kodanda Reddy, chairman of the Telangana Agricultural and Farmers Welfare Commission.

The deadline for filing nominations is March 5, with elections scheduled for March 16. The terms of Abhishek Manu Singhvi and K.R. Suresh Reddy in the Rajya Sabha will end on April 9.

The Congress party holds 66 seats in the 119-member assembly, and with the support of allies CPI (1 seat) and AIMIM (7 seats), they are confident about winning both seats. Reports suggest that the Congress leadership aims to send Abhishek Manu Singhvi back to the Rajya Sabha.
