Salem, February 8: The Tamil Nadu police have granted conditional permission for a rally proposed by Vijay, a leader of the Tamilga Vettir Kadhagam (TVK) and a former actor, scheduled for February 13. The Salem City Police announced this approval on Sunday, implementing strict security and crowd control measures.
The rally will take place at the Thalamuthu Natarajan Stadium near the Sheelanayakanpatti Highway. This permission follows multiple petitions and discussions between TVK organizers and the police regarding venue selection and adherence to governmental procedures.
Last week, party officials, led by Tamil A. Parthiban, the central district secretary of TVK, sought permission from Salem City Police Commissioner Anil Kumar Giri for the event. However, the initial request was denied due to unclear procedural details required under government guidelines.
Meanwhile, Union Secretary Karthi submitted another application at the Magudanchavadi police station, requesting permission to hold Vijay’s rally at Kalikavundampalayam. This proposal remained under consideration while TVK leaders continued to seek approval for their preferred venue.
Subsequently, the party filed a revised application with the police commissioner’s office, providing additional assurances regarding compliance with regulations. Notably, the organizers committed to limiting attendance to a maximum of 5,000 people and strictly enforcing crowd management to prevent any disorder.
Following these assurances, the police granted permission with several conditions. Access will be controlled through an entry token system to manage crowd size. Organizers have also been instructed to ensure adequate arrangements for security, emergency services, and traffic management around the stadium.
The administration has advised that children and pregnant women should refrain from attending the rally due to potential risks. Officials clarified that the primary responsibility for maintaining discipline and security lies with the organizers.
The rally is set to occur on February 13, from 12 PM to 3 PM, and is considered a significant political gathering for Vijay ahead of the upcoming election season in Tamil Nadu.
