Over 200 Patients Regain Vision at Indian Army Eye Camp in Kutch

Bhuj, February 5: In Bhuj, Gujarat, a three-day surgical Eye Camp organized by the Indian Army has successfully restored the vision of over 200 individuals, including ex-servicemen, their families, and residents from remote areas of Kutch.

This initiative, conducted in collaboration with a specialized ophthalmology team from the Army Hospital (Research and Referral) in New Delhi, also provided comprehensive eye examinations for more than 2,500 patients.

Lieutenant General Dheeraj Seth, PVSM, UYSM, AVSM, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Southern Command, visited the camp and interacted with beneficiaries and medical staff. He stated, “Such initiatives significantly enhance the quality of life for both ex-servicemen and local residents,” and commended the medical teams for their professionalism and dedication.

The specialist surgical team was led by Brigadier Sanjay Kumar Mishra, PVSM, AVSM, SM, VSM, Consultant and Head of the Department (Ophthalmology), who has successfully conducted over 100,000 surgical procedures.

Advanced cataract surgeries performed during the camp restored vision for patients from far-flung villages in Kutch. Additionally, extensive eye examinations facilitated early detection and timely treatment of other eye-related ailments.

This camp was part of the Army’s ongoing outreach programs in border areas, reflecting its commitment to the welfare of ex-servicemen and community health services in strategically sensitive regions.

By providing advanced diagnostic and surgical services to remote populations, the Army has helped address challenges related to distance and limited local medical infrastructure.

Lieutenant General Seth emphasized the importance of such programs in building strong relationships with border communities. He remarked, “The Indian Army will continue to undertake focused medical and welfare initiatives to support both ex-servicemen and civilians, thereby strengthening lasting bonds with the people in these areas.”

Rooted in the ethos of ‘Service Before Self’, the Indian Army’s efforts extend beyond defense duties, aiming to promote inclusive development and accessible healthcare in border districts.

The Kutch Surgical Eye Camp exemplifies this commitment, delivering expert medical care to populations that traditionally face barriers to quality health services.
