Opposition Voices Silenced in Parliament, Claims Ikra Hasan

New Delhi, February 4: In response to the suspension of eight MPs from the Lok Sabha, Samajwadi Party MP Ikra Hasan stated that the ruling party is preventing opposition leader Rahul Gandhi from speaking. She noted that for the past two days, interruptions have consistently halted his addresses.

During a conversation in New Delhi, Hasan expressed concern that rules and regulations seem to apply only to the opposition. She pointed out that when members of the ruling party make irresponsible statements or use controversial language, no actions are taken against them. There have been no disciplinary measures initiated, nor have any MPs been suspended.

Hasan remarked, “For the last two days, there have been continuous interruptions during the opposition leader’s speeches, and the House has been repeatedly adjourned. Is this Democracy? They do not want anyone to speak, but only wish to allow speech on their own terms.”

On Monday, Rahul Gandhi remarked in the House, “I want to be told what I am allowed to say.”

Hasan emphasized that they were elected by 2 million people, and it is their right to raise their demands. “No one can stop us from speaking, but the current behavior in the House is akin to strangling democracy. We will protest against this.”

Samajwadi Party MP Pushpendra Saroj added that the way the House has been conducted over the past two days is being observed by the entire nation. “Instead of being a temple of democracy, it has turned into a temple of dictatorship. Today, we saw that the opposition leader was not allowed to speak. Whenever he mentioned the Prime Minister’s name, he was immediately interrupted. I believe he could not speak for even 10 seconds. Opposition MPs were denied the opportunity to voice their concerns, and when protests occurred, eight MPs were suspended.”
