Namibia Cricket President Praises Jay Shahs Impact on Associate Nations

New Delhi, February 12: Rudy van Vuuren, the President of Namibia Cricket, has commended ICC Chairman Jay Shah for his significant contributions to the development of cricket in associate nations.

Van Vuuren stated, “The ICC is actively working on strengthening associate nations. Jay Shah has brought about meaningful changes. He even visited our newly constructed stadium in Namibia. The ICC has played a crucial role in providing international-level facilities at this stadium.”

He added, “For a team like Namibia to compete on a grand stage like the World Cup, the support from the ICC has been vital. We must leverage these facilities to perform well and show the world that associate nations are the future of cricket.”

Namibia is participating in the T20 World Cup 2026 and has been placed in Group A alongside India, Pakistan, the Netherlands, and the USA. In their opening group match, Namibia faced a 7-wicket defeat against the Netherlands.

Namibia’s next match is against the defending champions and co-hosts India, scheduled for Thursday at the Arun Jaitley Cricket Stadium in Delhi. This encounter will be a challenging one for the African team.

Historically, Namibia has played only one T20 match against India, which ended in a victory for the Indian team. In that match on November 8, 2021, at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Namibia batted first and scored 132 runs for 8 wickets, while India chased down the target with 136 runs for just 1 wicket, winning by 9 wickets.

On Thursday, Namibia will aim to challenge the Indian team.
