Mysterious Water Flow at Bengalurus Ancient Kadu Malleshwar Temple

Bengaluru, February 9: The festival of Mahashivaratri will be celebrated across the country on February 15. Devotees visit Shiva temples to offer prayers and fulfill their wishes. However, in Bengaluru, there is a temple where a continuous stream of water flows over the Shiva Lingam, and its source remains a mystery.

Scientists who have investigated the phenomenon are baffled, as they cannot determine where the water is coming from.

Located in the Malleshwaram area of Bengaluru, the ancient Kadu Malleshwar Temple is often compared to the Mallikarjun Jyotirlinga, one of the twelve Jyotirlingas. The Shiva Lingam here is believed to represent Mallikarjun. The temple was built in the 17th century by Venkoji, the brother of Maratha king Shivaji. The intricate carvings and architecture reflect both Maratha and Dravidian styles. This temple is said to be around 400 years old and is situated near the sacred Sri Dakshinamukha Nandi Tirtha Kalyani area.

It is believed that the benefits of visiting the Kadu Malleshwar Temple are realized only after visiting the Dakshinamukha Nandi Tirtha. Devotees witness miracles and the deep faith of worshippers in this area. In the temple courtyard, there is an ancient stone statue of Nandi Maharaj, from whose mouth a continuous stream of clean, cold water flows directly onto the Shiva Lingam.

Where does the water come from? Scientists have turned to the temple in search of the main source, but no one knows its origin. The water flows solely from Nandi Maharaj’s mouth, performing an abhishekam on the Shiva Lingam. Devotees consider this a divine miracle.

Local belief holds that the Shiva Lingam in the temple fulfills every wish of the devotees. If a devotee sincerely asks for something from their deity, it is believed to be granted.

During Mahashivaratri and the month of Sawan, millions flock to the temple. A 15-day peanut fair is held in conjunction with Mahashivaratri. Additionally, the temple is adorned with flowers, and a chariot procession for Lord Shiva takes place, accompanied by special abhishekam rituals.
