Mumbai, February 13: Political rhetoric in Mumbai has intensified. Aditya Thackeray, a leader of the Shiv Sena (UBT) and a legislator, criticized the city’s mayor for prioritizing issues related to Bangladesh while neglecting pressing local problems.
Thackeray highlighted several serious civic issues in Mumbai, including poorly maintained roads, delayed garbage collection, inadequate and inaccessible footpaths, encroachments by builders on public spaces, and polluted water and air. He emphasized that the mayor should focus on these local challenges instead of raising concerns about Bangladesh.
He also pointed out that matters concerning border security and illegal immigration fall under the jurisdiction of the central government and the state home ministry. Thackeray questioned how Bangladeshi nationals could traverse the country illegally, especially through states governed by the BJP, while the party has been in power at the center for over a decade.
Describing the situation as a serious national security issue, Thackeray insisted that if there has been significant illegal immigration, accountability must be established. He raised concerns about whether this reflects a failure of intelligence or administrative oversight.
Thackeray accused both the central and state governments of needing to clarify what measures have been taken to prevent, identify, and deport illegal immigrants. He stressed that accountability is crucial in matters of national security, and the government must provide clear answers to these pressing questions.
