Kuala Lumpur, February 8: Prime Minister Narendra Modi was warmly welcomed in Putrajaya, Malaysia, on Sunday. He shared moments from this grand reception, highlighting the growing friendship between India and Malaysia.
On the social media platform X, PM Modi posted, “Moments from the welcome in Putrajaya. India and Malaysia are deepening their partnership based on trust, friendship, and shared aspirations.”
PM Modi is on a two-day visit to Malaysia, during which he will engage in high-level meetings. He previously mentioned the cultural ties between the two nations, particularly the role of the Tamil community in Malaysia. In another post, he noted, “Students of the Hindu Sangam in Malaysia recited Thirumurai devotional songs. It is commendable that the Tamil community in Malaysia has preserved and popularized its heritage over the years.” This initiative showcases the deep civilizational and people-to-people connections between the two countries.
During his visit, PM Modi announced that an Indian consulate would soon be established in Malaysia, which will strengthen bilateral diplomatic relations and provide better services to the Indian community residing there. This announcement followed a grand welcome ceremony in Kuala Lumpur, which saw extensive participation from the Indian community.
The event featured 800 artists performing traditional Indian dances, marking the largest performance recorded in Malaysian history.
In his address to the gathering, PM Modi expressed gratitude to the community and praised Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim. He acknowledged the significant role of the Indian diaspora in Malaysia‘s progress and prosperity and appreciated their contributions to strengthening the friendship between the two nations.
PM Modi reiterated India’s commitment to the welfare of Indian citizens in Malaysia and to further enhancing bilateral relations. Upon arriving in Malaysia, he traveled in a car with Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, which sparked discussions about the chemistry between the two leaders.
