New Delhi, February 7: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has issued a statement ahead of his departure for Malaysia. He expressed eagerness to engage in discussions with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim to further strengthen their comprehensive strategic partnership.
On the social media platform ‘X’, Modi wrote, “Today, I am embarking on an official visit to Malaysia at the invitation of my friend Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim. The historical ties between India and Malaysia have seen consistent progress in recent years. I look forward to discussions with Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim to enhance our Strategic Partnership. Our goals include deepening defense and security relations, boosting economic and innovation partnerships, and expanding our cooperation into new areas.”
He added, “I am also excited to meet the Indian community in Malaysia. With a population of nearly three million, this community is one of the largest Indian diasporas in the world. Their significant contribution to Malaysia’s progress and their role as a living bridge between our two countries provide a strong foundation for our historical friendship.”
Prime Minister Modi will be in Malaysia for an official visit on February 7-8, 2026. During this time, he will discuss several key issues with the Malaysian Prime Minister. This marks his third visit to Malaysia and the first since the designation of India-Malaysia bilateral relations as a ‘comprehensive strategic partnership’ in August 2024.
In addition to bilateral discussions with Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, Modi will engage with members of the Indian community as well as industry and business representatives. His visit will coincide with the 10th India-Malaysia CEO Forum.
India and Malaysia share a long-term friendship based on historical, civilizational, and cultural ties. The presence of over 2.9 million Indian expatriates in Malaysia further strengthens this relationship, making it the third largest Indian diaspora globally.
