Noida, February 16: A significant step is being taken to strengthen the public transport system in the city. The proposed metro line extension from Sector 61 in Noida to Greater Noida West will enhance connectivity.
This approximately 6-kilometer corridor will feature four new stations and will connect with the Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS). It is estimated that this project will benefit around 125,000 passengers daily.
Under the proposed route, Sector 61 will be developed as a common station, serving as a junction for the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) and the Noida Metro Rail Corporation (NMRC). It will be designed as an interchange station, facilitating easy transfers for passengers. The metro will extend from Sector 61 to Sector 4 in Greater Noida West, where it will have direct access to the RRTS station.
According to officials, the RRTS corridor will start from Sarai Kale Khan and reach Sector 4 and Knowledge Park-5 in Greater Noida West. Connectivity to the proposed Ghaziabad RRTS will be available at Knowledge Park-5, making access to Jewar Airport more convenient. Passengers arriving at Sector 61 via the Delhi Metro will be able to board the NMRC metro directly to Greater Noida West, while those heading to Jewar can use the RRTS.
The Detailed Project Report (DPR) for this route is ready. After some amendments, it will be resubmitted to the Uttar Pradesh Cabinet for approval. Officials are optimistic that it will receive approval soon.
Krishna Karunesh, CEO of NMRC, stated that this project will alleviate daily traffic congestion between Greater Noida West, Gaud Chowk, and Noida. It will provide residents with better and more accessible public transport options, reducing reliance on private vehicles. The elevated corridor will include stations at Sector 61, Sector 70, Sector 123, and Greater Noida West Sector 4.
To keep project costs manageable, the central government, state government, Noida, and Greater Noida authorities will jointly invest on an equity basis. Additionally, the DPR for the route from Greater Noida Depot to Junpat and from Botanical Garden to Sector 142 has already been approved by the central government.
The detailed design, topography survey, and soil testing for these projects are nearly complete. Both projects are expected to be inaugurated together next month.
