Thiruvananthapuram, February 6: Malayalam film actor Manian Pilla Raju is once again in the spotlight, but this time not for health reasons. He has become embroiled in controversy following a car accident.
The actor is accused of being involved in a collision with a two-wheeler while exiting a club in Thiruvananthapuram late at night. Reports indicate that instead of assisting the victims, he fled the scene. The police have since arrested him.
Thiruvananthapuram police released a statement confirming the arrest of Manian Pilla Raju. He faces charges of reckless driving and failing to stop after the accident. He has been taken for a medical examination, and if alcohol is detected in his blood test, additional charges may be filed against him.
Further details from the Thiruvananthapuram police revealed that the actor’s car collided with a motorcycle while leaving the Trivandrum Club. After the crash, he reportedly drove away without stopping. The two individuals on the motorcycle sustained injuries and were admitted to the hospital, where their condition remains serious. Media reports suggest that the incident occurred around 9:30 PM when Raju’s vehicle struck a Royal Enfield motorcycle, causing significant injuries to its riders. The police traced the vehicle’s license plate back to the actor.
Manian Pilla Raju is a prominent star and producer in the Malayalam film industry, having appeared in over 400 films. He began his career with “Mohiniyattam,” released in 1976, but gained fame with the 1981 film “Maniyanpilla Adva Maniyanpilla.” Since then, he has delivered numerous hits across various genres, from comedy to serious roles. Beyond acting, Raju has also contributed to film production, with credits including “Aay Auto” (1990), “Anandabhadran” (2005), “Chota Mumbai” (2007), and “Pavada” (2015).
