
Imphal, February 9: Security forces in Manipur have achieved significant success in joint operations. From February 1 to February 7, the Indian Army and Assam Rifles, in collaboration with the Manipur Police under the Spear Corps, conducted intelligence-based missions across Imphal West, Imphal East, Thoubal, Tengnoupal, Bishnupur, and Ferzawl districts.
During these operations, seven active cadres from various militant organizations were arrested, along with the recovery of 18 weapons and a substantial amount of explosives and war materials.
The first operation took place on February 1, when Assam Rifles and Thoubal Police Commandos arrested an active member of the Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup in the Mayang Imphal area of Imphal West. A smartphone and SIM card were seized from him.
On February 2, a major operation led to the discovery of a hidden militant hideout near Tonglang village. From this site, an AK-47, two pistols, two single-barrel rifles, three radio sets, 18 IEDs, ammunition, and other materials were recovered. All IEDs were safely destroyed on-site. On the same day, two active cadres of the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) were arrested during separate operations in Kakwa and Lambl areas, with mobile phones, SIM cards, and identification documents seized.
Similarly, on February 3, during a joint operation in the eastern region of Fubala village near Loktak Lake, security forces recovered a 9mm carbine, a pistol, a .32 bore pistol, rifle grenades, a lathe bomb, live cartridges, and a sniper scope. That day, a search operation in the Lambl area of Imphal West also led to the recovery of a bolt-action rifle, seven pistols, 64 live cartridges, a hand grenade, and other war materials. Additionally, in Tengnoupal district near the India-Myanmar border, security forces thwarted an ambush attempt by militants, recovering an AK-56, an M4 rifle, and ammunition in a counter-operation.
On February 5, security forces arrested a member of the People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (Progressive) from the Pungdongbam area of Imphal East. On February 6, an active cadre of the United National Liberation Front (Koireng) was captured in the Singjamei area, followed by the arrest of another PREPAK member on February 7 along the Andro-Wangkheng-Irilbung road. On the same day, another cadre of PREPAK (Progressive) was apprehended in the Senjam Khunou area of Imphal West, with mobile phones and SIM cards recovered.
Security forces stated that these operations were conducted based on precise intelligence and represent a significant success in effectively controlling militant activities in the region. The Army, Assam Rifles, and Manipur Police affirmed that such joint operations will continue to maintain peace and law and order in the state.
