Lawyers Protest Alleged Misconduct at Ranchi SC-ST Police Station

Ranchi, February 6: In response to alleged misconduct against a female lawyer and her colleagues, members of the District Bar Association in Ranchi staged a one-day boycott of judicial work on Friday. They condemned the incident as a serious affront to judicial dignity and the independence of lawyers.

The officer in charge of the SC-ST police station, Mahesh Munda, faces serious accusations of pushing, behaving rudely, and obstructing the legal work of lawyer Savita Kujur and her colleagues.

Around 1:30 PM, a meeting of lawyers was held at the Bar Association building, chaired by President S.P. Agarwal. Following this, hundreds of lawyers marched on foot from the civil court to the SC-ST police station, where they staged a protest.

The lawyers expressed their dissent by shouting slogans outside the police station for nearly an hour. In response to the incident, security measures in the area were heightened. The District Bar Association submitted a memorandum to the Governor, Chief Minister, Director General of Police, and Senior Superintendent of Police in Ranchi.

The memorandum demands the immediate suspension of Mahesh Munda and the initiation of departmental action against him. Additionally, the lawyers urged the Chief Justice to ensure that no adverse orders are passed against lawyers or parties involved in cases due to the boycott.

S.P. Agarwal, President of the District Bar Association, stated that lawyers would resume their judicial duties on Saturday, but future strategies would depend on the actions taken by the administration. He warned that if no strict action is taken against the culpable officer, the protest would intensify.
