Jason Holder Shines in T20 World Cup, Sets New Record

Kolkata, February 8: West Indies all-rounder Jason Holder delivered an outstanding performance in the opening match of Group C at the T20 World Cup 2026 against Scotland. His exceptional bowling not only secured a victory for his team but also marked a significant milestone in his career.

In the match against Scotland, Holder took 3 wickets for just 30 runs in 3.5 overs. With his second wicket, he achieved a remarkable feat, becoming the first West Indies bowler to claim 100 wickets in international T20 cricket.

To date, Holder has played 90 matches and bowled in 86 innings, amassing a total of 101 wickets. He has recorded four wickets in a single innings on four occasions and has taken five wickets once.

Holder is now the 35th bowler in international T20 history to take 100 or more wickets.

Currently, the record for the most wickets in international T20 cricket is held by Afghanistan’s captain Rashid Khan, who has taken 187 wickets in 111 matches. New Zealand’s Tim Southee follows in second place with 164 wickets from 126 matches. The third position is held by New Zealand’s Ish Sodhi, followed by Bangladesh’s Mustafizur Rahman and Sri Lanka’s Wanindu Hasaranga. Sodhi has taken 162 wickets in 137 matches, Rahman has 158 wickets in 126 matches, and Hasaranga has claimed 151 wickets in 94 matches.

In the match between West Indies and Scotland, after losing the toss, West Indies batted first and scored 182 runs for the loss of 5 wickets, thanks to Shimron Hetmyer’s explosive 64 runs off 36 balls, which included 2 fours and 6 sixes. Other notable contributions came from Brandon King with 35 runs off 30 balls, Rovman Powell with 24 runs off 14 balls, and Sherfane Rutherford with 26 runs off 13 balls.

Scotland was bowled out for 147 runs in 18.5 overs, losing the match by 35 runs. For West Indies, Romario Shepherd was the standout bowler, claiming 5 wickets, including a hat-trick, for just 20 runs in 3 overs. Holder took 3 wickets, while Shamarh Brooks and Gudakesh Motie each took 1 wicket.
