Hyderabad, February 7: The Janasena Party, led by Andhra Pradesh’s Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan, is set to contest 336 seats in the upcoming municipal elections in Telangana next week.
In a statement released on Friday, the party announced that it has fielded 336 candidates, all of whom have had their nominations accepted by the returning officers.
The Janasena candidates will run under the party’s election symbol, a glass tumbler. They are participating in elections across 11 districts, with the highest number of candidates—48—coming from Nizamabad district. This is followed by 46 candidates from Nalgonda, 44 from Mahbubnagar, and 39 from Adilabad.
The elections for 116 municipalities and seven municipal corporations in Telangana are scheduled for February 11. These urban local bodies encompass a total of 2,996 wards.
While the Janasena Party is part of the NDA government led by the TDP in Andhra Pradesh, it has no alliance with the BJP for the Telangana Municipal Elections. The Telangana BJP has already announced that it will contest the elections independently.
Two days prior, the Janasena announced that Pawan Kalyan would campaign for both Janasena and BJP candidates on February 7 and 8. The party emphasized that it has fielded candidates in a friendly environment, keeping Telangana’s interests in mind and aiming to strengthen its grassroots presence.
According to the party’s statement, Janasena’s leader will campaign on behalf of the NDA in the elections. A detailed schedule for Pawan Kalyan’s campaign is expected to be announced later.
However, uncertainty surrounds his visit as no further updates have been provided by the Janasena.
In total, 12,944 candidates are competing in the municipal elections. According to the state election commission, 14 candidates have been elected unopposed, including twelve from the ruling Congress party and two from the main opposition Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS).
