Jammu, February 6: In a recent initiative led by the SSP of Jammu, the SP South Jammu convened a review meeting with Village Defense Guards (VDGs) in the Falia Mandal. The meeting aimed to assess the current Security grid, review preparations, strengthen inter-agency coordination, and boost the morale of the VDGs, who serve as the first line of defense in border and sensitive areas along the International Border (IB), including regions with a history of drone-related incidents involving drug drops.
The discussion emphasized the critical role of VDGs in maintaining operational readiness and surveillance in sensitive areas. The SP South Jammu highlighted that their local intelligence and vigilance are vital in thwarting enemy activities and ensuring peace in the region.
During the meeting, the SP South Jammu engaged in detailed discussions with the SDPO South, SHO Satwari, ICP Falia Mandal, and relevant beat officers, addressing both the concerns and issues faced by the salaried and voluntary VDGs. Their problems were listened to patiently, with assurances of timely resolutions. The SP commended their dedication, discipline, and commitment to maintaining peace, security, and harmony at the grassroots level, encouraging them to remain vigilant, physically fit, and operationally prepared.
Highlighting the rich legacy of the VDGs, the SP South Jammu reminded attendees that many members have been honored with prestigious awards, including the Shaurya Chakra, for their exemplary bravery and duty. He stressed the importance of upholding the highest traditions of bravery, discipline, and selfless service among the VDG members in the South Zone.
The SP South Jammu underscored the necessity of effective intelligence sharing and prompt responses to emerging threats, emphasizing close and seamless coordination among VDGs, relevant SHOs, ICPs, and other security agencies. He made it clear that any attempts by enemy elements to disrupt peace and security would be dealt with strictly and effectively.
VDGs were specifically instructed to remain highly vigilant regarding any suspicious activities, incidents of drone drops, or potential infiltration attempts, and to report such information to police and security forces without delay.
As part of strengthening nighttime dominance, it was decided that VDGs would operate in small patrol groups, each including a member from the police post. These patrols will function from sunset to sunrise to ensure better monitoring and control over the area. It was also directed that all details, including those involving the Indian Army and BSF, be uploaded to avoid confusion or misidentification regarding the checkpoints established by VDGs.
As part of the security review, a physical inspection of the weapons provided to VDGs was conducted to ensure proper maintenance and safe handling, along with operational readiness instructions.
The meeting concluded on a positive note, boosting the confidence of the VDGs. The Jammu police reaffirmed their commitment to working shoulder to shoulder with them to safeguard national security and maintain peace in the border and sensitive areas of South Jammu.
