
Amaravati, February 8: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has ordered an investigation into a food poisoning incident that left 92 tribal students from a government ashram boys’ hostel ill.
The incident occurred on Saturday at the ashram hostel in Devarapalli village, located in the Rampachodavaram mandal of Polavaram district.
The Chief Minister instructed officials to submit a report by Monday and emphasized that strict action would be taken against those found negligent.
On Sunday, CM Naidu held a review meeting with officials from the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) and other departments, providing necessary directives.
Officials informed the Chief Minister that the 92 students at the Devarapalli ashram boys’ hostel exhibited symptoms such as vomiting, abdominal pain, fever, and diarrhea, prompting their immediate hospitalization at facilities in Maridumilli and Rampachodavaram.
After breakfast on Saturday morning, students began complaining of abdominal pain and vomiting, leading to their admission for treatment. Officials reported that all students are currently in stable condition.
They also informed the Chief Minister that they visited the hostel immediately after the incident to assess the situation. An initial medical check-up was conducted for the remaining students, and those showing symptoms of diarrhea received treatment.
To ensure the health of the students, a medical camp has been set up, and food and water samples have been collected for testing. A joint inspection committee has also been formed to investigate the incident.
CM Naidu directed that the health of the students receiving treatment at the Rampachodavaram Area Hospital be monitored closely, with daily updates provided on their condition.
He also instructed officials to initiate departmental action against those responsible for the incident and to pursue criminal charges if necessary.
