New Delhi, February 13: The aircraft accident investigation Bureau (AAIIB) has clarified that reports suggesting the completion of the investigation into the Air India Flight AI-171 crash are incorrect and speculative. The investigation is still ongoing, and no final conclusions have been reached.
The AAIIB conducts its investigations strictly under the Aircraft (Investigation of Accidents and Incidents) Rules 2025 and in accordance with ICAO Annex 13. This process is technical and evidence-based, aimed at identifying the root causes and enhancing safety.
The preliminary report released earlier contained the information available at that time. A final investigation report will be published in accordance with international regulations once the investigation is complete. This report will include findings and safety recommendations.
The AAIIB urges media organizations to exercise restraint and avoid premature speculation. Reporting without verification can cause unnecessary public concern and undermine the integrity of professional investigations.
The AAIIB is fully committed to transparency, the integrity of the process, and the highest standards of aviation safety.
It is noteworthy that Minister of State for Civil Aviation, Murleedhar Mohol, informed the Rajya Sabha earlier this month that the AAIIB is investigating all aspects of the Air India Flight AI-171 crash that occurred in Ahmedabad last June, with the aim of completing the investigation in a timely manner.
In a written response to a question in the House, the minister stated, “All potential causes of the accident are being investigated, and every effort is being made to complete the investigation in a timely manner, in accordance with ICAO regulations.”
On June 12, 2025, just seconds after taking off from Ahmedabad Airport, Air India Flight AI-171 crashed into a medical college, resulting in the deaths of 241 passengers and crew members, as well as 19 individuals on the ground.
