Indian Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman Visits Norway for Economic Talks

Oslo, February 16: Indian Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is currently on a visit to Norway. During her trip, she will engage in bilateral meetings with Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre, Finance Minister Jan Tore Sanner, and Minister of Trade and Industry, Iselin Nybø. This information was shared by the Finance Ministry on Monday.

The ministry announced on social media platform X that Sitharaman will also participate in a roundtable discussion with Norwegian CEOs and investors, as well as interact with the Indian diaspora at an event.

During her two-day visit to Oslo, the Finance Minister is set to meet with Prime Minister Støre and hold discussions with Finance Minister Sanner and Minister Nybø. Additionally, she will engage with startups at the Oslo Science Park.

Previously, during her trip to Germany, Sitharaman met with top leaders and BUSINESS executives to discuss bilateral trade relations in light of the EU-India Free Trade Agreement.

In Munich, she met with APM Terminals CEO Keith Svendsen, who spoke about the positive and long-term relationship between Maersk and India, highlighting significant investments and partnerships in India’s maritime ecosystem.

The two also discussed the benefits of the recently concluded India-EU Free Trade Agreement (FTA), which aims to open up Indian and European markets and provide potential advantages for businesses on both sides in the future.

Sitharaman also met with German Vice Chancellor and Federal Finance Minister Lars Klingbeil, discussing the meeting between Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz that took place in January, which strengthened bilateral relations, particularly in defense, trade, and technology sectors.

According to a post from the Finance Ministry, Klingbeil emphasized that the FTA represents a significant step for trade and investment in India, particularly highlighting bilateral development cooperation and the expansion of metro rail in India.
