India-U.S. Trade Agreement Marks New Economic Era

New Delhi, February 8: Sanjay Sarawagi, the president of the Bihar unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party, stated on Sunday that the interim trade agreement between India and the United States will initiate a new chapter in economic cooperation between the two nations.

Sarawagi emphasized that the India-U.S. interim trade agreement will provide a fresh direction for economic collaboration. He noted that this agreement will strengthen trade, investment, technology, and supply chains, aiding India in achieving its goal of becoming a developed nation. He remarked, “This is not merely a trade agreement; it is also a step towards enhancing strategic and economic friendship between India and the U.S.”

The aim of the India-U.S. interim trade agreement is to pave the way for a comprehensive bilateral trade pact. As part of the announcement, the White House confirmed a reduction in tariffs on Indian products from 25% to 18%, providing immediate relief to Indian exporters and industries.

Discussions regarding this trade agreement began between U.S. President Donald Trump and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on February 13, 2025. Officials stated that this interim arrangement is designed to deliver quick results while supporting a stronger and more diversified supply chain.

The announcement highlighted, “The interim agreement between the U.S. and India will be a historic milestone in our countries’ partnership, demonstrating a shared commitment to mutual and balanced trade based on common interests and tangible outcomes.”

Earlier this week, President Trump spoke with Prime Minister Modi and later announced the deal on Truth Social, stating that both countries have agreed on a trade agreement. He emphasized efforts to enhance mutual transactions, increase market access, and address long-standing trade imbalances.

In a separate matter, regarding the arrest of MP Pappu Yadav, Sarawagi stated, “A case has been registered against Pappu Yadav, and he should have surrendered in court. He has been sought for 15-20 years. The court emphasized that the absconding accused must surrender, and if warrants or attachment orders are executed, the government must ensure their arrest and imprisonment.”
