Spain, February 4: India has kicked off its campaign at the Boxam Elite International 2026 with a remarkable start. The tournament features 214 boxers from 21 countries, showcasing several thrilling matches on the opening day.
Leading the Indian team were World Boxing Cup Finals champions Hitesh Gulia (70 kg) and Preeti (54 kg), both of whom secured impressive victories, contributing to India’s success across multiple weight categories.
Hitesh dominated the elite men’s 70 kg match, defeating the Netherlands’ Finn Bos with a score of 5:0. Calm, precise, and strategic, the Indian boxer controlled the match from start to finish, displaying his signature ring intelligence and timing.
Earlier, Preeti established her dominance in the elite women’s 54 kg category by defeating Kazakhstan’s Aliaskar Simbat, also with a score of 5:0. She showcased her speed and disciplined defense, outmaneuvering her opponent effectively.
The Indian women’s team continued their momentum, with Prachi (57 kg), Priya (60 kg), and Kajal (65 kg) all advancing confidently. Prachi and Priya both secured 5:0 victories over Spain’s Vanessa Morel Ramirez and Canada’s Alessia Manzueto, respectively, while Kajal won a closely contested match against Kazakhstan’s Asem Tanatar with a score of 4:1.
In the men’s draw, India also delivered strong performances, applying pressure with confident wins. Sachin (60 kg) easily defeated Spain’s Brandon Alejandro 5:0, while Mohammad Hussamuddin (60 kg) triumphed over Denmark’s Matthias Mehmet Buyukdemir with a score of 4:1.
Abhinav Jamwal (65 kg) achieved a fantastic 5:0 victory against Denmark’s Khalid Usman, and Deepak (70 kg) won against Belgium’s Hornel Aitevi with a score of 4:1.
Akash (75 kg) and Ankush (80 kg) also advanced with 4:1 victories, although Aditya Pratap Yadav (65 kg) was eliminated after a tough match against England’s Joe Turner.
