India Kicks Off T20 World Cup 2026 with a Win Over USA

Mumbai, February 7: The Indian cricket team has officially begun its journey in the T20 World Cup 2026. Team India played its first group stage match against the USA at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, securing a victory by 29 runs. Before the India-USA match, former Indian captain Rohit Sharma entered the field with the World Cup trophy, accompanied by ICC President Jay Shah. Both unveiled the trophy in a grand ceremony.

As Rohit Sharma made his entrance with the trophy, fireworks lit up the sky, and the crowd chanted his name. He also took a moment to greet his former teammate Yuzvendra Chahal and the current Indian captain, Suryakumar Yadav, before the toss.

Jay Shah shared this special moment on his social media account, calling it a significant occasion. Rohit Sharma has been appointed as the brand ambassador for the T20 World Cup 2026 by the ICC. Under his captaincy, the Indian team clinched the T20 World Cup 2024 title by defeating South Africa in the final. This marked India’s second T20 World Cup title since 2007. After leading India to championship victory, Rohit bid farewell to this format.

In terms of the match, after losing the toss and batting first, captain Suryakumar Yadav scored an unbeaten 84 runs off 49 balls, with 4 sixes and 10 fours, helping India post a total of 161 runs for 9 wickets. The USA managed to score only 132 runs in their 20 overs, losing the match by 29 runs.
