India Expresses Deep Concern Over Gulf Conflict and Prioritizes Citizen Safety

New Delhi, March 3: India has expressed deep concern over the ongoing conflict in the Gulf region, urging all parties to exercise restraint, engage in dialogue, and pursue diplomatic solutions.

Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal stated that India had previously voiced its worries on February 28, 2026, regarding the onset of hostilities in Iran and the Gulf. At that time, India called for restraint, cautioning against further escalation and emphasizing the need to prioritize civilian safety. Unfortunately, the situation has deteriorated significantly during the holy month of Ramadan.

In recent days, not only has the intensity of the conflict increased, but its impact has also spread to other nations. Destruction and loss of life are on the rise, while normal life and economic activities have come to a standstill. As a neighboring country with significant interests in the region’s security and stability, these developments are a source of grave concern for India.

Approximately ten million Indian citizens live and work in the Gulf region. Their safety and well-being are of utmost priority. India cannot remain indifferent to any developments that adversely affect them. Furthermore, our trade and energy supply chains traverse this area, and any major disruption could have serious repercussions for the Indian economy. As a nation whose citizens play a vital role in the global workforce, India firmly opposes attacks on commercial vessels. In recent days, such attacks have resulted in the deaths or disappearances of some Indian nationals.

In this context, India reiterates its strong appeal for dialogue and diplomacy. We clearly advocate for an immediate end to the conflict. Many innocent lives have already been lost, and we mourn these tragedies deeply.

Indian embassies and consulates in affected countries are in constant communication with Indian citizens and community organizations, providing necessary consultations and assistance to those stranded due to the conflict. They will remain active in resolving various commercial and diplomatic issues arising from this situation.

We are also in contact with the governments of the region and other key partners. The Prime Minister and the External Affairs Minister have engaged in discussions with their counterparts. The government will closely monitor the evolving situation and make necessary decisions in the national interest.
