New Delhi, February 7: India secured a remarkable victory against England, winning the Under-19 World Cup title on Friday. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced a cash prize of ₹7.5 crore for the World Cup-winning team, technical staff, and selection committee.
BCCI Secretary Devjeet Saikia stated on Saturday, “The Indian team that won the Under-19 Men’s Cricket World Cup in Zimbabwe and Namibia will receive a cash award of ₹7.5 crore. We are working on the distribution of this amount among the players, technical staff, and selection committee, but the total reward from BCCI will be ₹7.5 crore.”
In the final match held at Harare Sports Club, India scored 411 runs, losing just 9 wickets, thanks to a stellar performance by Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who scored 175 runs off 80 balls, hitting 15 fours and 15 sixes. Captain Ayush Mhatre contributed with a solid 53 runs from 51 balls.
In response, England was bowled out for just 311 runs in 40.2 overs. Caleb Faulkner led the English batting with a remarkable 115 runs off 67 balls, including 7 sixes and 9 fours, while Ben Dockins added 66 runs. However, their efforts were not enough to prevent a disappointing defeat.
Following India’s sixth Under-19 World Cup victory, Saikia tweeted on Friday, “This remarkable achievement is a testament to the strength of a robust system built on long-term player development, a competitive domestic structure, dedicated technical staff, quality coaching programs, and a strong talent identification process. Age-group cricket remains a top priority. BCCI will continue to invest in and strengthen these foundations for the future. Well done, boys! The nation is very proud of you.”
