India and US Strengthen Ties During EAM Jaishankars Visit

Washington, February 5: Indian External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar recently completed a three-day visit to the United States from February 2 to 4. During this trip, he met with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio. EAM Jaishankar described the visit as productive and positive.

He highlighted the momentum in the growing relationship between India and the U.S., referencing a historic trade agreement that is nearing completion.

Sharing images from the meeting on social media platform X, EAM Jaishankar expressed gratitude for Rubio’s hospitality. He stated, “The visit to the U.S. was productive and positive. The historic India-U.S. trade agreement is in its final stages and will be completed soon. This marks a new phase in our bilateral relations, filled with numerous possibilities.”

He also noted that cooperation on critical minerals is advancing rapidly. Discussions on strategic issues, defense, and energy are anticipated in the coming days, showcasing strong momentum overall.

During this significant visit, the Minister held meetings with senior members of the U.S. government, including separate discussions with Secretary Rubio and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessen. They extensively discussed the India-U.S. strategic and economic partnership.

EAM Jaishankar mentioned that the talks with Rubio covered several key aspects of the India-U.S. relationship, including trade, energy, nuclear, defense, critical minerals, and technology.

He stated that both sides agreed to expedite follow-up actions and to hold meetings soon to advance their shared interests.

According to information shared by the U.S. Department, Minister Jaishankar and Rubio discussed formalizing bilateral cooperation on the exploration, mining, and processing of critical minerals. This area has emerged as a vital component of the India-U.S. economic and strategic relationship.

The meeting on Wednesday followed the announcement of a trade agreement between President Trump and Prime Minister Modi, aimed at reducing barriers and enhancing market access between the world’s two largest democracies.
