
Colombo, February 16: India triumphed over Pakistan by 61 runs in the 27th match of the T20 World Cup 2026, held at the R. Premadasa Stadium. This victory marks India’s eighth win against Pakistan in T20 World Cup history, setting a record for the most wins by one team against another in this tournament.
To date, India has played a total of nine T20 World Cup matches against Pakistan, winning eight. Notably, one of these victories came in a Super Over. In contrast, Pakistan secured its only T20 World Cup win against India in 2021.
In terms of the most wins against a single opponent in T20 World Cup history, Australia (against Bangladesh), Pakistan (against Bangladesh), Sri Lanka (against West Indies), and West Indies (against England) are tied for second place.
In this match, India batted first, scoring 175 runs for the loss of seven wickets. Ishan Kishan was the standout performer, scoring 77 runs off 40 balls, including three sixes and ten fours. Captain Suryakumar Yadav contributed 25 runs. In response, Pakistan was bowled out for just 114 runs in 18 overs, with Usman Khan top-scoring with 44 runs and Shaheen Afridi adding an unbeaten 23 runs.
With this victory, the Indian team has qualified for the Super 8 stage after winning three consecutive matches in the T20 World Cup 2026. They began their campaign with a 29-run win against the USA, followed by a 93-run victory over Namibia. India’s final group match will be against the Netherlands on February 18.
Following this defeat, Pakistan has dropped to third place in Group A. After victories over the Netherlands and the USA, they lost to India. The USA is currently ahead of Pakistan, having won two out of four matches. To advance to the Super 8, Pakistan must win their upcoming match against Namibia on February 18.
