Mumbai, February 4: Actor Harshvardhan Rane, who made his Bollywood debut with “Sanam Teri Kasam,” initially faced challenges at the box office. However, the film’s re-release brought it newfound success. His other film, “Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat,” also received positive feedback from audiences. Interestingly, Harshvardhan was not the first choice for either film.
In an interview, he disclosed that both roles were initially offered to other actors before he was selected. “I was not the first choice for either film. The role in ‘Sanam Teri Kasam’ was with someone else, and ‘Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat’ had also been offered to another actor,” he explained.
Harshvardhan recalled receiving a message from director Milap Zaveri just three days after the release of “Sanam Teri Kasam,” which premiered on February 5, 2016. “On February 7, Milap sir contacted me to discuss the story. I told him I admired his work and wanted to collaborate,” he said.
He expressed admiration for Milap Zaveri’s vision, noting that the director aims to create films for the mass audience, ensuring that the stories resonate with everyday people. Working on both films provided him with valuable learning experiences.
“Milap sir’s films cater to audiences from Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities. He strives to deliver emotional stories to as many people as possible. I appreciate directors who aim to connect with the masses rather than just a select few,” Harshvardhan stated.
Regarding “Sanam Teri Kasam,” he mentioned that he auditioned for the role. After the initial audition, the makers requested a second audition. “During the second audition, the director became emotional. I realized they liked my performance, even though the role had been offered to another actor,” he added.
Directed by Radhika Rao and Vinay Sapru, “Sanam Teri Kasam” struggled initially at the box office but became a blockbuster after its re-release in 2025, earning over 30 crores. Audiences loved the chemistry between Harshvardhan and Pakistani actress Mawra Hocane.
“Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat,” released in 2025 and directed by Milap Zaveri, showcased Harshvardhan in an intense emotional role, which garnered significant praise and performed well commercially.
