Gujarat Expands Nutrition Services to Over 514,000 Beneficiaries

Gandhinagar, February 6: In a significant initiative aimed at enhancing access to nutrition and health services for mothers and young children, Gujarat has successfully enrolled over 514,000 new beneficiaries under various Anganwadi schemes.

This campaign, implemented between November 2025 and January 2026, targeted pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers, and children up to six years old. Most registrations occurred in tribal and rural areas, significantly improving access to welfare services in these communities.

The Women and Child Development Department launched this campaign to identify eligible beneficiaries and connect them with the Anganwadi network, ensuring that every qualified child and mother can access essential nutrition and Health services. The initiative was led by Women and Child Development Minister Manisha Vakil.

According to government data, more than 255,000 beneficiaries from tribal areas were included, along with 207,000 from rural regions and approximately 51,000 from urban areas. All these beneficiaries are now covered under services such as supplementary nutrition, growth monitoring, and basic health assistance.

Officials reported that these results were achieved through detailed micro-planning prepared by district administrations. This plan played a crucial role in identifying beneficiaries door-to-door and ensuring access in remote and interior areas.

The campaign particularly focused on tribal and rural regions, where coverage had previously been low. To ensure the accuracy of beneficiary data, the department utilized Teko software, a digital platform for tracking maternal and child health, alongside systematic field verification.

Officials noted that the use of technology and ground verification helped prevent duplication and ensured the timely identification of the correct beneficiaries.

Anganwadi workers and helpers played a vital role by reaching out to families door-to-door and successfully implementing the campaign through verification efforts, with support from district-level officials. These efforts improved data accuracy and extended services to beneficiaries who were not previously registered in the Anganwadi network.
