Embracing Ramadan: A Call for Inner Reform and Resilience

New Delhi, February 20: Syed Saadatullah Husaini, President of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, has urged Muslims to view Ramadan this year as a serious project for internal reform and principled living.

In his message released for Ramadan, he emphasized the increasing pressure on faith and principles. He stated that the purpose of fasting is to cultivate goodwill, patience, and moral strength during these challenging times.

In a statement to the media, he remarked, “Devotion to God is a state of the heart, a profound awareness of Allah’s presence and oversight, which fosters hesitation towards sins and a natural attraction towards goodness.”

He explained that fasting teaches believers to live with awareness beyond rituals and external discipline. Highlighting the spiritual aspects of fasting, he noted that it helps individuals recognize spiritual joys over physical pleasures, illustrating that comfort does not define a meaningful life.

He added that repentance and seeking forgiveness cleanse the soul and clarify one’s purpose.

Describing Ramadan as the “Month of Restraint,” Syed Saadatullah Husaini stated, “Restraint means standing firm like a mountain against all external forces and internal challenges.” He explained that fasting teaches control amidst hunger, thirst, work burdens, and distractions, ensuring that actions align with principles rather than mere enthusiasm. By altering sleep patterns, eating habits, and daily routines for Allah’s sake, believers gain the willpower and strength to make tough decisions and remain steadfast under pressure.

The President of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind pointed out the rampant shamelessness spreading through social media, posing continuous challenges to faith and morality. He highlighted the immense pressure on values and principles in the digital age. He urged Muslims to move beyond mere superficial observance of Ramadan and allow this month to become a pivotal moment in their lives, fostering personal and collective reform rooted in purity and resolute intentions.
