Kolkata, February 24: CPI(M) leader Gargi Chatterjee has raised concerns about the deteriorating law and order situation in West Bengal. She stated that the current state of law enforcement is extremely poor, with the police behaving like mere spectators.
In a conversation with reporters on Tuesday, she pointed out that all security forces in the state are primarily focused on protecting Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. This diversion of resources is likely to lead to a further decline in law and order. According to her, the local security forces seem disconnected from the realities of the state, and the law enforcement system is being ridiculed. Overall, she asserted that the law and order situation in West Bengal is indeed dire.
Chatterjee further emphasized that it is the government’s responsibility to identify and punish terrorists. However, she questioned what actions the government is taking in this regard, noting that the public is well aware of the government’s stance on issues like the RG Kar case and the overall law enforcement situation in the state.
She remarked that West Bengal appears to be turning into a safe haven for thieves and bandits. Criminals seem to believe they can operate without fear of repercussions, and she holds Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee accountable for this alarming trend.
Additionally, Chatterjee claimed that there is a tacit understanding between the TMC and BJP, suggesting that both parties are colluding. In light of this, she stated that they will continue to raise their voices for a thorough revision of the voter list, as the ongoing situation is unacceptable. She believes that both political parties are indifferent to the welfare of the state and are focused on its destruction.
She also accused the central government of politicizing the special intensive revision of the voter list, which is adversely affecting the people. Chatterjee vowed that they will not allow this to happen and are prepared to protest on the streets.
