Mumbai, February 8: Good news has emerged regarding the film ‘O’ Romeo’ starring Shahid Kapoor and Tripti Dimri. The Bombay City Civil Court has dismissed a petition seeking to halt the film’s release.
The ruling, issued on February 7, has paved the way for the film’s theatrical release. This decision followed a lengthy and significant hearing, during which the court balanced the fundamental right to creative expression against the right to privacy.
The petition was filed by the daughter of the late Hussain Sheikh, who alleged that the film violated her father’s privacy and reputation. However, the court rejected this claim, stating several important points. It emphasized that the right to privacy is personal and ceases upon an individual’s death. Family members cannot inherit this right nor use it to block a film or artistic work.
The film has been deemed a completely fictional creation. A clear disclaimer within the film states that all characters are fictional and any resemblance to real persons is purely coincidental. The court also noted that the film’s announcement had been made public at the end of 2024, yet the petition was filed just days before its release. Halting the film would cause significant financial harm to the producers, cast, and others involved.
Furthermore, the court mentioned that the petitioner had claimed monetary damages, indicating that any alleged loss could be compensated financially. Therefore, there was no basis for imposing a release ban. The film is represented by Bar and Brief Attorneys on behalf of Sajid Nadiadwala, while Vishal Bhardwaj’s side was handled by Saikrishna and Associates.
‘O’ Romeo’ is a romantic drama directed by Vishal Bhardwaj, presented by Sajid Nadiadwala, with production by Nadiadwala Grandson ENTERTAINMENT. The film features Shahid Kapoor and Tripti Dimri alongside notable actors Nana Patekar, Avinash Tiwari, Tamannaah Bhatia, and Farida Jalal in key roles.
This film is based on Hussain Zaidi’s book ‘Mafia Queens of Mumbai,’ with Shahid portraying the character of mafia don Hussain Ustra, while Tripti Dimri plays the role of Sapna.
