Beijing, February 6: At an open meeting of the Security Council on February 4, China’s Deputy Representative to the United Nations, Sun Lei, urged the international community to unite against terrorism.
Sun Lei emphasized the need for a unified, multifaceted approach to combat terrorism, advocating for zero tolerance towards terrorist activities and a firm rejection of double standards. He called for strengthened solidarity to consolidate efforts in safeguarding international peace and security.
He pointed out that groups such as the Islamic State, Al-Qaeda, and the East Turkestan Islamic Movement continue to pose significant threats to Afghanistan and its neighboring countries. China urges the Afghan interim government to take decisive actions against these terrorist forces to eliminate their influence.
Furthermore, China supports enhanced cooperation among Central Asian countries, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), and Afghanistan to address cross-border terrorism and assist in Afghanistan’s economic development, thereby tackling the root causes of terrorism. Sun Lei reiterated China’s readiness to collaborate with all relevant parties to combat terrorism in any form.
