Chaos Erupts in Jammu and Kashmir Assembly Over Controversial Remarks

Jammu, February 4: The Jammu and Kashmir Assembly witnessed significant turmoil on Wednesday following controversial remarks made by the Leader of the Opposition and BJP MLA Sunil Sharma regarding the Pir Panjal region. Legislators from the ruling National Conference (NC) and its ally, the Congress, raised objections to Sharma’s comments and demanded an apology.

The assembly was filled with noise for an extended period as the ruling party insisted that Sunil Sharma apologize for his remarks. Amidst the uproar, the Assembly Speaker suspended the session for 15 minutes.

However, when proceedings resumed, the chaos reignited. Members of the National Conference chanted slogans and reiterated their demand for an unconditional apology from the BJP leader, causing further disruption and prompting the Speaker to temporarily adjourn the session once again.

This controversy began on Tuesday when Sunil Sharma responded to questions raised by some legislators regarding the demand for divisional status for the Pir Panjal region. During this discussion, he allegedly stated that he was unaware of what Pir Panjal was or where it was located, provoking a strong reaction from the ruling benches.

Rajouri MLA Iftikhar Ahmed stated that the assembly would not proceed until the opposition leader Sunil Sharma issued an apology for his comments.

Despite warnings from the Speaker regarding strict action against those disrupting the proceedings, the uproar continued.

Deputy Chief Minister Surendra Kumar Chaudhary accused the BJP of shedding crocodile tears for the Jammu region. He alleged that the BJP created controversy over college admissions, leading to the closure of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Medical College.
