Kolkata, February 19: The political landscape in West Bengal is heating up as the state prepares for assembly elections this year. Political parties are ramping up their strategies, leading to a verbal clash between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Trinamool Congress (TMC).
In a significant move ahead of the elections, former BJP MLA Bishnu Prasad Sharma has joined the TMC. In response, BJP leader Debjit Sarkar has made a statement regarding Sharma’s transition.
Sarkar asserted that Sharma’s shift to the TMC will not impact the BJP. He remarked that those who discuss Gorkhaland, and have been accused of attempting to separate North Bengal from the rest of the state, are now uniting. He believes the people of Bengal will reject this notion, stating, “The public is not with them. They lack policy and ideology.” Sarkar questioned the reasons behind Sharma’s departure and speculated on his future within the TMC, suggesting that the truth will soon emerge.
He further emphasized that they are aware of the fate of those who have left the BJP for the TMC. “We must fight for the welfare of the people of North Bengal. There will be one government from Gangotri to Gangasagar,” he stated confidently, predicting a BJP government in Bengal after the elections that would resolve all issues.
Sarkar also criticized the TMC, suggesting they should provide an account of their actions and the exploitation of the public. He raised concerns about the TMC’s ticket distribution process, questioning the history of violence associated with their candidates and how they can secure tickets based on their past.
