New Delhi, February 5: Seven BJP MPs from Delhi have condemned Rahul Gandhi‘s recent statement in the Lok Sabha, where he referred to a fellow MP as a “traitor.” They argue that this remark directly attacks the dignity of the Sikh community.
The incident unfolded during a heated exchange between Rahul Gandhi and Union Minister Ravneet Singh Bittu in Parliament on Wednesday. Gandhi reassured Bittu, saying, “Don’t worry, you will return,” while labeling him a traitor. Although Gandhi extended his hand for a handshake, Bittu walked away without responding. This confrontation has prompted the BJP to launch a strong criticism against Gandhi.
BJP MP Baansuri Swaraj stated that the language used by Gandhi not only insults an individual MP but also undermines the identity, sacrifices, and patriotism of the entire Sikh community. She described the comment as a sign of insensitivity and historical ignorance. “To call a representative from a tradition that has defended the nation through the sacrifices of Guru Sahib and Sahibzadas a ‘traitor’ is unacceptable. Political differences are part of democracy, but this insult reflects Congress’s repeated disregard for Sikh sentiments throughout history. Rahul Gandhi must take full responsibility for his words and publicly apologize,” she asserted.
BJP MP Manoj Tiwari also expressed his disapproval, labeling Gandhi’s statement as highly objectionable.
Ramveer Singh Bidhuri, another BJP MP, emphasized that calling Bittu a traitor is a direct affront to the Sikh community, which is rich in historical sacrifices. He urged Gandhi to apologize to the entire nation, especially the Sikh community.
Additionally, BJP MP Kamaljeet Sahrawat labeled Gandhi a “national enemy,” stating that one should not shake hands with enemies of the country.
