Bihar Police Busts International Cyber Fraud Gang in Madhubani

Patna, February 6: The Bihar police have successfully dismantled an international cyber fraud gang in Madhubani district. Four gang members were arrested, and a significant cache of electronic devices and cash was seized.

During the operation, Madhubani police recovered seven SIM boxes, 136 mobile phones, multiple SIM cards, various electronic devices, and ₹168,000 in cash, along with other tools used in cyber fraud.

This action was based on specific intelligence and involved a coordinated effort from the Intelligence Bureau (IB), Economic Offenses Unit (EOU), District Intelligence Unit (DIU), Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), Department of Telecommunications (DOT), municipal police station, and cyber police station.

Madhubani’s Superintendent of Police (SP) Yogendra Kumar stated that the first raid took place at a mobile repair center near the railway station in the municipal police station area. Subsequent raids were conducted at the homes of Mandeep Kumar, Mohammad Ehsaan, Roshan Kumar, and Vikas Kumar in Tirhut Colony, leading to their arrests.

SP Kumar revealed that Mandeep Kumar was operating an illegal telecom setup from a room in his house in Tirhut Colony with the help of Roshan Kumar. “Using SIM boxes and telecom devices from private companies, he was collaborating with cyber fraudsters based in China, Cambodia, Thailand, Myanmar, and other countries through a trunking system,” he explained.

He further noted that the accused were running an illegal telecom exchange that converted international Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) calls into local voice calls, allowing cybercriminals to deceive people in India while concealing their international identities.

During questioning, Mandeep Kumar disclosed that Roshan Kumar had assisted him by supplying seven SIM boxes and SIM cards, for which he was paid ₹800 per SIM.

It is alleged that the SIM cards were registered under the names of unknown individuals and were destroyed after being deactivated to erase digital evidence. All recovered equipment has been confiscated, and cases have been filed against the accused under relevant sections of the law.
