Bihar Police Arrests Mastermind Behind Mobile App Scam

Motihari, February 19: The Bihar police have apprehended the main accused in a mobile app scam that defrauded residents of over one crore rupees. The arrest took place in Faridabad, Haryana.

The accused, Sangam Kumar, is identified as the mastermind behind the fraudulent “Agni App.” He hails from Pali village in Faridabad.

According to Deputy Superintendent of Police Abhinav Parasar, efforts are underway to identify and apprehend other members of the gang.

The case began when Abhishek Sharma, a resident of the Raxaul area, filed a complaint with the cyber police last year. He alleged that the Agni App lured young people with promises of high returns on mobile recharges, electricity bill payments, and advertisements. Additionally, it offered attractive gifts, including cars, for larger investments.

Sangam Kumar presented himself as the CEO of the Agni App. The gang organized seminars in various locations to attract young investors. Initially, they displayed some profits in the app’s wallet to build trust. However, once a significant number of people invested large sums, the app was abruptly shut down, and the accused fled.

Authorities suspect that dozens of victims may have lost millions of rupees. During the investigation, police received information indicating that Sangam Kumar was hiding in Haryana. Subsequently, a special raid team was formed under the leadership of DSP Abhinav Parasar, leading to his arrest.

DSP Parasar stated that they are interrogating the accused to gather information about other gang members, bank accounts, and digital transactions. The police are also investigating the extent of the scam’s network across different states.
