Behind the Scenes of Kachche Dhaage: A Look at Its Filming in Haunted Kuldhara

Mumbai, February 19: The 1990s are often remembered for iconic action and masala films. Titles like ‘Karan Arjun’, ‘Ghatak’, and ‘Mohra’ immediately come to mind. Among these classics, one blockbuster stands out for breaking box office records: ‘Kachche Dhaage’. Today marks the 27th anniversary of this film, which was released on February 19, 1999.

Starring Ajay Devgn, Saif Ali Khan, Manisha Koirala, and Namrata Shirodkar, ‘Kachche Dhaage’ was one of the few films from the 90s to gross over ₹200 crores at the domestic box office. Its powerful dialogues, stunning locations, and thrilling action sequences captivated audiences, prompting them to cheer and whistle in theaters. However, few know that the film was shot in the eerie village of Kuldhara, requiring significant effort from the director.

Director Milan Luthria and Ajay Devgn were already good friends and eager to collaborate. However, Ajay’s busy schedule delayed the project. After six months, Milan confronted Ajay, asking if he would commit to the film. Ajay agreed to start shooting in two months, and the project was set in motion.

Ajay performed all his stunts without a body double, whether it was separating train coaches or jumping from a moving train. During one scene where he had to separate train coaches, he narrowly escaped a serious accident as the train was moving at full speed, and one of his hands was handcuffed. This scene left everyone breathless, but fortunately, all went well. Additionally, Saif Ali Khan’s playful antics on set, including dancing on a moving train, often irritated the crew, leading to him getting scolded multiple times.
