Assam Congress Leader Denies Political Allegations Amid SIT Controversy

Guwahati, February 8: Assam Congress President and Lok Sabha MP Gaurav Gogoi vehemently denied recent political allegations related to the Special Investigation Team (SIT) on Sunday. He accused the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led state government of deliberately raising this issue to distract the public from its governance failures.

Reaffirming his faith in constitutional and democratic institutions, Gogoi questioned the timing and intent behind the focus on the SIT, suggesting that such controversies arise when the government faces pressure over unfulfilled promises and policy shortcomings.

He claimed that this matter is being politically exploited to divert attention from issues that directly affect the populace.

Addressing the media, the Congress MP stated that they fully respect judicial and investigative processes and have no objections to any lawful inquiries.

“I have complete faith in the Constitution and independent institutions. I have nothing to hide, and I will fully cooperate with any legitimate investigation. Ultimately, the truth will prevail,” he asserted.

However, he warned against the alleged misuse of investigative agencies for political purposes, emphasizing that these institutions should operate autonomously and without external pressure.

According to Gogoi, dragging agencies into partisan battles undermines public trust and damages democratic values.

The Congress leader also accused the ruling party of attempting to divert attention from serious public concerns, including rising unemployment, inflation, governance failures, and unfulfilled developmental promises.
