Assam CM Accuses Gaurav Gogoi of Pakistan Ties

Guwahati, February 8: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has leveled serious allegations against Lok Sabha MP Gaurav Gogoi, claiming that during his visit to Pakistan, he remained digitally silent for at least ten days. This silence coincided with the Home Ministry’s alteration of the Congress leader’s visa permissions.

During a press conference on Sunday, Chief Minister Sarma stated, “When Gaurav Gogoi traveled to Pakistan in 2013, the Pakistani Home Ministry altered his permissions to visit cities. Meanwhile, the Congress MP was completely silent on digital platforms, raising numerous questions about his activities during that time.”

He suggested that Gogoi might have undergone some “training” sessions while in Islamabad. Sarma remarked, “After those ten days of silence, he returned completely changed. This visit occurred in December 2013, and he became a Lok Sabha MP in 2014. Upon entering Parliament, he began asking sensitive questions related to national security, reinforcing my suspicion that he was brainwashed by Pakistani intelligence during that trip.”

Sarma further noted that Tarun Gogoi served as Assam’s Chief Minister until 2016, and Gaurav Gogoi resided in the Chief Minister’s bungalow after allegedly receiving training in Pakistan, which he described as a highly dangerous situation. He asserted, “A person who quietly visits Pakistan and stays at the Chief Minister’s residence poses a significant threat to state security.”

The Chief Minister also emphasized the seriousness of the allegations involving Pakistani national Ali Tauqeer Sheikh and Gaurav Gogoi’s wife, Elizabeth Gogoi, stating, “These are grave accusations. When a sitting MP, who is also the Deputy Leader of the Congress Party in Parliament, has any connection to Pakistan, the matter becomes significantly more serious.”
