Amit Shah to Visit West Bengal Ahead of Assembly Elections

Kolkata, February 5: In anticipation of the crucial assembly elections later this year, Union Home Minister Amit Shah is expected to embark on a two-day visit to West Bengal in the third week of February.

A member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) state committee revealed that Shah is likely to arrive in Kolkata on the night of February 17 or the morning of February 18, returning to New Delhi on February 19.

This visit will focus solely on internal administrative meetings. The BJP state committee member noted that Shah’s potential trip coincides with the higher secondary examinations organized by the West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education, meaning he will not address any public rallies this time.

During his visit, Shah is expected to review the party’s organizational activities and clarify the roles of top party leaders, including elected representatives such as MPs and MLAs.

The state BJP committee member also mentioned that the newly appointed BJP president, Nitin Nabin, met with the elected MPs from West Bengal on Tuesday. In this meeting, he advised party MPs to concentrate more on their respective constituencies in light of the upcoming assembly elections. Shah’s visit is anticipated to further define the responsibilities of MPs and MLAs in this context.

Initial discussions regarding the criteria for candidate selection for the state’s 294 assembly seats are also likely to take place.

Political analysts believe that the continuous visits to West Bengal by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP president Nabin, and Home Minister Shah since the beginning of the year indicate the BJP’s serious approach towards the upcoming state assembly elections.

In January, Prime Minister Modi addressed two political rallies, the first on January 17 in Malda district and the second on January 18 in Singur, Hooghly district.

Nitin Nabin was also on a two-day visit to West Bengal from January 27, during which he addressed a public meeting in the industrial city of Durgapur in the Purba Bardhaman district.
