Lucknow, February 7: Samajwadi Party legislator Ravidas Mehrotra has made serious allegations against the Election Commission and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) regarding the implementation of the Systematic Voter’s Registration (SVR). He claims that following the SVR’s introduction, 2.89 crore voters have been removed from the electoral rolls.
In an interview with a news agency, Mehrotra stated that a conspiracy is underway to remove voters’ names by filling out approximately 1.01 crore forms through Form-7. Although the deadline for filing claims and objections has been extended by one month, there is significant public anger towards the Election Commission due to the SVR’s implementation.
Mehrotra remarked that the situation has escalated to the point where the public is demanding that the Chief Election Commissioner display the BJP flag at their office. He also mentioned that citizens are being forced to approach the Supreme Court for justice.
Furthermore, he noted that the Chief Minister of West Bengal is set to argue in the Supreme Court while wearing a black coat, indicating a clear collusion between the BJP and the Election Commission to remove voters’ names from the list.
He accused the Election Commission of failing in its constitutional duty to add eligible voters’ names, instead focusing on removing them. This has led to widespread public outrage against the Election Commission across the country. Mehrotra has called for all upcoming elections to be conducted under the supervision of the Supreme Court to maintain public trust in the democratic process.
The Samajwadi Party legislator also criticized the central government, alleging that the BJP is spreading hate Politics nationwide, which is escalating communal tensions. He accused the BJP of alternating between promoting a Hindu nation and disrespecting religious leaders. Mehrotra emphasized that such politics is undermining the social fabric of the country and causing serious harm to democracy.
