Lucknow, February 4: Akhilesh Yadav, the National President of the Samajwadi Party, has expressed deep concern over the rising cancer cases in Uttar Pradesh. He stated that approximately 54% of cancer cases among men in the state are primarily caused by substance abuse. Yadav urged the government to initiate a comprehensive, honest, and effective public awareness campaign against all forms of addiction, rather than merely paying lip service.
In a post on the social media platform ‘X’, Yadav emphasized, “If nearly 54% of cancer cases in men are due to substance abuse, the government must launch a campaign against all types of addiction.”
He suggested that the government should promote credible individuals who are not only image-conscious but also genuinely free from any form of addiction. These individuals, who have achieved success and happiness in their lives, can inspire others to stay away from substances and lead a mindful life.
Yadav stated, “We need to educate everyone. Preventing cancer is easier than fighting it. Do not fear cancer itself, but the causes that lead to it. Even if cancer occurs, it can be defeated with timely treatment. Adopt proven vaccinations to combat various forms of cancer, and the government should provide these vaccinations free of charge.”
He highlighted the importance of avoiding tobacco as a major cause of cancer. Yadav called for the promotion of those who have successfully lived without addiction and are now cancer-free. By connecting cancer survivors with patients in hospitals, hope can be instilled in those battling cancer, enhancing their will to live and fostering a positive outlook towards treatment.
He warned against the misconception that certain addictive products possess medicinal properties, asserting that addiction is addiction, regardless of the claims. People should protect themselves and inspire others to do the same, as personal example is the most powerful motivator.
Yadav emphasized that overcoming addiction requires inner strength and a bit of courage. He encouraged individuals to commit to quitting substances for the sake of their families and society.
He also advocated for making cancer medications not only affordable but also completely tax-free, with free treatment available for the underprivileged. The maintenance of cancer institutes in Uttar Pradesh should transcend political biases, focusing on public welfare, and new institutes should be prioritized at the regional level with additional funding.
Yadav concluded by calling for a public awareness campaign titled “Tobacco Tolerance” and “Substance Elimination.” He urged everyone to embrace a happy life and avoid addiction.
