New Delhi, March 2: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced an upcoming Test and One Day International (ODI) series between India and Afghanistan. While the two teams frequently compete in T20 matches, this series marks a significant step up in their encounters.
The Afghanistan cricket team will visit India in June 2026 for one Test and three ODIs.
The sole Test match is scheduled to take place from June 6 to June 10, 2026, in New Chandigarh.
The ODI series will kick off with the first match on June 14 in Dharamshala, followed by the second match on June 17 in Lucknow, and the final match on June 20 in Chennai. All three ODIs will commence at 1:30 PM.
Historically, India and Afghanistan have played only one Test match, which took place in Bengaluru in 2018. In that match, India triumphed by an innings and 262 runs, with Shikhar Dhawan earning the Player of the Match award for his score of 107 runs. Ajinkya Rahane captained the Indian team during that game.
The two teams have faced off in four ODIs so far, with India winning three of those matches. The last ODI was held on October 11, 2023, and one match ended in a tie.
Afghanistan’s performance in the 2026 T20 World Cup was disappointing, as they failed to advance past the Super 8 stage after reaching the semifinals in the previous edition. Following this setback, the team has appointed Richard Pybus as their new coach, replacing Jonathan Trott. The cricketing world is keenly observing how Afghanistan will rebound from their World Cup struggles, and the upcoming series against India is expected to provide a valuable opportunity for the team to regroup.
