Adam Zampa Becomes Second Highest Wicket-Taker in T20 World Cup History

Colombo, February 12: Adam Zampa has made history by becoming the joint second-highest wicket-taker in T20 World Cup history. The Australian leg-spinner has claimed 40 wickets in the tournament, matching the records of Wanindu Hasaranga and Rashid Khan.

All three bowlers have taken 40 wickets each, while Shahid Afridi follows closely with 39 wickets. Leading the list is Bangladesh’s Shakib Al Hasan, who has taken 50 wickets. In a recent match against Ireland, Zampa bowled four overs, conceding just 23 runs and taking four wickets.

This marks Zampa’s second ‘four-wicket haul’ in the T20 World Cup. He has also achieved a five-wicket haul in the tournament. Overall, Zampa has taken 143 wickets in 112 T20 international matches at an impressive average of 20.56.

In this match, Australia batted first, scoring 182 runs for the loss of six wickets. Marcus Stoinis was the top scorer with 45 runs, while Matt Renshaw and Josh Inglis contributed 37 runs each. From the opposing team, Mark Adair took the most wickets, claiming two, while Matthew Humphreys, George Dockrell, and Harry Tector each took one.

In response, Ireland was bowled out for 115 runs in just 16.5 overs. George Dockrell was the highest scorer for Ireland with 41 runs, while Lauren Tucker added 24 runs. For Australia, Nathan Ellis and Adam Zampa each took four wickets, with one wicket going to Matthew Kuhnemann.

Australia will face Zimbabwe on February 13 at the same venue, marking their second group stage match in the T20 World Cup 2026. Zampa will have the opportunity to surpass Rashid Khan and Hasaranga in the next game.
