Moscow, March 4: Russia has condemned the joint US-Israel actions against Iran, stating that the civilian population is currently bearing the consequences and will continue to do so. The country accused the US of using these actions as a pretext for aggression.
Maria Zakharova, spokesperson for the Russian Foreign Ministry, expressed these views during a press briefing on Wednesday. She claimed that the alleged threats from Iran were utilized as an excuse to violently dismantle the constitutional order in a sovereign UN member state.
Zakharova alleged that the United States is no longer hiding its intentions of seeking “regime change” in Iran. She strongly condemned the attack on a girls’ primary school in the city of Minab, Iran, which resulted in the deaths of 165 individuals, mostly schoolgirls. She stated that targeting children in such incidents not only violates international humanitarian law but also strikes at fundamental human values.
She noted that the Iranian administration is attempting to manage the situation to prevent chaos. However, the worst consequences of military campaigns will inevitably fall on ordinary people, infrastructure, and the global economy.
The Russian spokesperson criticized the widespread neglect of this incident in Western nations. She pointed out that typically, global outrage follows the deaths of children in conflicts, but such voices are notably absent in this case, highlighting a double standard.
Zakharova emphasized the urgent need to halt the escalating violence that is resulting in rising civilian casualties, as it exacerbates the situation and increases regional instability. She called on all parties to exercise restraint and resolve the situation through diplomatic means to save innocent lives and prevent further escalation of the conflict.
