New Delhi, March 1: Amid escalating attacks in the Middle East, the United States has issued a new statement at the United Nations defending its actions against Iran. The U.S. emphasized that the safety of its allies “is not negotiable.”
During an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council, U.S. envoy Mike Waltz defended military actions against Iran. He stated, “Iran’s continuous attempts to develop advanced missile capabilities and its refusal to abandon nuclear ambitions, despite diplomatic opportunities, pose a serious and growing threat.”
Waltz reiterated the U.S. stance on Iran acquiring nuclear weapons, asserting, “The international community has long endorsed a simple and essential principle: Iran cannot possess nuclear weapons. This principle is not a political issue; it is a matter of Global Security, and that is why the U.S. is taking action.”
He argued that Washington, under President Donald Trump, had made repeated Diplomatic Efforts, which he claimed Iran failed to honor. “American diplomacy has been attempted repeatedly and in good faith. Diplomacy cannot succeed when there is no genuine desire to halt attacks, where there is no true partner for peace,” he said.
Waltz accused Iran of undermining the council’s credibility, stating, “It is unfortunate that this government will attempt to lecture us on human rights and the rule of law. Its presence in this council mocks the UN.”
Referring to attacks on regional partners like Kuwait, the UAE, Bahrain, Qatar, and Jordan, Waltz emphasized the necessity of U.S. actions. He stated, “Those who stand with us must understand that their security is not up for negotiation. The safety of our allies is non-negotiable. Peace is not maintained by appeasing those who threaten it. Peace is maintained through strength against terror.”
Meanwhile, President Donald Trump reiterated his stance against Iran. On Sunday, he posted on Truth Social, “Iran has just said they will attack very powerfully today, more than ever before. But they better not, because if they do, we will hit them with a force the likes of which they have never seen.”
