Washington, February 24: President Donald Trump expressed his dissatisfaction with the new college football rules during a significant interview on a college football podcast. He also discussed hiring decisions in government, loyalty, and leadership.
In a conversation with Josh Pate at The Varsity Restaurant in Rome, Georgia, on February 19, Trump shared his thoughts. The interview was released on Sunday night. When asked about the changes in football rules, Trump voiced his displeasure with the new kickoff rule.
“This is very bad. I don’t like watching it, and there are many things in football I don’t enjoy. When I watch football, I absolutely dislike this new kickoff rule. You know it takes away the glamour and prestige, stripping the game of its essence,” he stated.
Describing the kickoff as “the start of the game” and “a crucial element,” the President remarked, “I think this is very bad for the NFL, and I hope college football does not adopt this rule.”
When asked how he decides which games to attend, Trump mentioned he follows certain players and teams that he prefers. “I like Georgia. I like this Georgia team. By the way, I like your quarterback. I think Gunner is going to be a great quarterback. I’ll be watching him closely this year,” he added.
Trump also discussed his interactions with prominent figures in college football, including coaches Nick Saban and Urban Meyer. “Mostly, we talk about politics. They want to know what’s happening with Iran and how to handle Venezuela,” he said.
On leadership, Trump noted that experience has shaped his approach between his first and second terms. “I would say that I had never done this before in my first term. I had some very good people, but there were some I wouldn’t choose if I had a bit more experience,” he explained.
He concluded, “Once I gained that experience, we now have a tremendous cabinet.”
