South Africa Triumphs Over India in T20 World Cup Match

Ahmedabad, February 23: South Africa achieved a remarkable victory against India, winning by 76 runs in the Super 8 match of the T20 World Cup 2026 on Sunday. South African captain Aiden Markram praised David Miller and Dewald Brevis for their outstanding performances.

Miller scored 63 runs, while Brevis contributed 45 runs, stabilizing the innings after South Africa lost three wickets for just 20 runs. The duo formed a crucial partnership, amassing 97 runs off 50 balls. Markram highlighted the importance of their collaboration, stating, “The key was the partnership. David Miller and Dewald Brevis did a fantastic job, steadied the innings, and kept us in the game. In the final overs, we discussed that the ball was coming onto the bat well, feeling a bit bouncy, so our strategy was to find gaps, run quickly, set aside ego, and gather as many runs as possible.”

Following the impressive win, Markram remarked, “The team performed excellently. The pitch here was quite different from before, so it was great to see the players adapt quickly and implement their skills according to the conditions. We are very excited about our bowling unit. Our tournament started a bit challenging, but the way they performed today was commendable. They worked hard, and despite a tough start, their performance in this match was outstanding. I believe the partnership was the most crucial aspect.”

Markram added, “We know mistakes will happen, and as a group, we have no issues with that; we move forward. Lungi Ngidi is always a wicket-taking threat whenever he bowls, especially in the middle phase. It depends on the conditions. If the new ball doesn’t offer much help, we save him for later, and if there’s something in the pitch, he capitalizes on it. We will assess on match day and assign him the appropriate role.”

South Africa will face the West Indies in their next Super 8 match on February 26. The captain stated, “Our next match is against the West Indies. Both teams have played against each other recently, so it will be a similar challenge for both. The West Indies is a dangerous T20 team and is playing good cricket. We will celebrate this victory, then leave it behind and focus entirely on the match on the 28th. This is a big match for us, and we don’t want to take our confidence or good atmosphere lightly.”
